How Game Day Legends grew from a “garage operation” to a successful ecommerce business with Linnworks
New commerce connects
Find out how Linnworks can help grow your business.
Game Day Legends is a leading online retailer of authentic sports memorabilia based in Huntington Beach, California. As their ecommerce business blossomed, they soon outgrew spreadsheet-based inventory management processes, and disjointed inventory across channels was leading to costly mistakes. Thankfully, they discovered Linnworks — and the benefits of automating and centralizing inventory processes across channels.
We caught up with Dennis Rosello, Warehouse Manager, to find out how Linnworks has helped take their processes to a new level — all while streamlining their ecommerce operations.
Disconnected systems and manual processes
The team at Game Day Legends was struggling with disjointed inventory management across channels — relying on spreadsheets, and systems that simply didn’t integrate with one another. “We were keeping inventory on a spreadsheet for the warehouse, while our accountant was trying to track it on QuickBooks,” Rosello recalls. This disconnected approach led to frequent mismatches and inaccuracies, creating significant inefficiencies across the business.
The manual processes extended beyond inventory. Each morning, Dennis Rosello would spend the first hour of his day handwriting orders before picking, packing, and shipping them individually. This repetitive and manual effort created a high risk for human error.
The costly impact of overselling
One of the biggest challenges that Game Day Legends faced was frequent overselling. Without real-time updates across sales channels, discrepancies in stock levels were a constant issue — which was impacting sales and eroding customer satisfaction.
“When you don’t have accurate, synchronized inventory across all platforms, overselling becomes inevitable,” Rosello explains.
Customers were left disappointed when they purchased items that were no longer available, forcing the team to either cancel the sale or offer substitutes.
“We had to choose between refunding the customer or sending them a higher-priced item that was in stock and hoping they’d be satisfied with the alternative,” Rosello continues. “This not only affected our customer experience but also impacted our margins, as giving away more expensive items meant losing potential sales revenue.”
Centralized, automated, and efficient — thanks to Linnworks
Recognizing the need for a new chapter, Game Day Legends turned to Linnworks. By centralizing and automating their ecommerce operations through our solution, Linnworks has created a unified system that integrates with all of the company’s selling channels — such as eBay and BigCommerce — and has eliminated the manual work that previously bogged down their operations.
“Linnworks became our single source of truth,” Rosello explains. He continues, “We integrated all our sales platforms, and the system updates inventory in real-time so that if there’s only one item left, every marketplace shows that accurately.”
Boosted efficiency and reduced errors
Game Day Legends also uses Linnworks’ order management capabilities to streamline their fulfillment process. Our solution generates pick lists with detailed location information, allowing the team to quickly locate and retrieve items for orders. After using Linnworks’ inventory tracking to monitor stock levels, bin placements, and product movements, Game Day Legends saw immediate improvements in efficiency.
The most significant impact has been in eliminating overselling — which previously led to customer dissatisfaction and additional costs. Rosello confirms this, saying, “Now, real-time updates across all our platforms prevents overselling from happening. It’s probably one of the biggest benefits.”
Achieving scalability and a positive return on investment
By using Linnworks, Game Day Legends has also freed up the company’s leadership to focus on strategic initiatives. “Our owner, who’s also a full-time firefighter, now has more time to work on marketing and communicate with agencies to come up with new ideas,” Rosello adds.
Rosello concludes, “We were trying to turn a garage operation into a legitimate business, and Linnworks made that possible. Now, our inventory management and order processing are automated, saving us countless hours and headaches.”
