Tactics to help you streamline and grow your business.

Retail inventory tracking software spans a huge range, from basic POS add-ons to full ERP platforms. And picking the wrong tier is expensive. You either pay for complexity you don’t need, or outgrow a tool within a year.

We assessed 18 options built specifically for tracking and managing retail inventory, from single-location POS systems to multichannel platforms for retailers selling everywhere at once.

Which type of tool fits your business?

“Retail” inventory software covers two different types of business:

  1. Physical retail, which requires a point-of-sale system with inventory management built in.
  2. Online and omnichannel retail, which requires software that syncs stock everywhere you sell.

We’ve grouped this list the same way, with multichannel and online-first tools first, then physical retail and POS systems, then enterprise ERP platforms and a couple of tools built for narrower needs.

How we picked this list

We evaluated each tool on multichannel sync, warehouse and multi-location support, automation and forecasting, and integration breadth. We then matched that against who it actually suits: a single shop, a multichannel retailer, or an enterprise operation.

A few familiar names from other comparisons aren’t here. Some no longer exist as independent products (TradeGecko, for one). Others are built for a different job entirely, like restaurant POS or payments processing, rather than retail inventory.

Best inventory tracking tools for multichannel and online-first retail

1. Linnworks

Linnworks connects your sales channels, warehouses, and inventory data into a single system. Most tools specialize in one part of retail inventory management. Linnworks combines them:

  • Multichannel selling. 100+ native integrations with marketplaces, storefronts, and social commerce channels, syncing stock in one place instead of channel by channel.
  • Warehouse management. Full warehouse operations (formerly SkuVault, now part of Linnworks), covering picking, packing, and multi-location stock control.
  • Demand forecasting. Built-in forecasting predicts stock needs from historical sales data, with deeper SKU-level forecasting available through the Inventory Planner by Sage integration.
  • Automation. Rules-based automation and Spotlight AI handle repetitive tasks like order routing.
  • Shipping. 70+ carrier integrations with sub-10-minute stock sync across channels.

Linnworks also offers fast onboarding, with retailers able to go live within 40 days.

The tradeoff for that breadth: a business selling through a single channel, with no plans to expand, may find dedicated single-purpose tools simpler to start with.

2. Cin7

Cin7 Core (formerly DEAR Systems) targets omnichannel retailers and distributors with over 700 integrations, EDI connections, and 3PL support. It’s a strong fit for businesses with complex B2B and wholesale operations alongside retail selling.

Cin7 Omni serves larger enterprise accounts with heavier customization needs. It’s a capable, well-established platform, generally positioned toward more complex operations than a growing retailer running lean.

3. Brightpearl by Sage

Brightpearl by Sage (Sage acquired the company in 2022) is a retail operating system covering financials, inventory, order management, and fulfillment. It’s aimed at established ecommerce enterprises. It’s a mature, capable platform, though its scope and pricing tend to suit larger operations more than growing multichannel sellers.

4. Zoho Inventory

Zoho Inventory is a budget-friendly, cloud-based option for order fulfillment, stock tracking, and multi-warehouse management. It integrates with the wider Zoho ecosystem. That’s an advantage if you already use Zoho’s other business tools. It’s a limitation if you don’t, since some functionality depends on pairing it with other Zoho products.

5. Veeqo

Veeqo offers a free plan covering multichannel inventory sync, shipping, and order management. But it’s owned by Amazon, which shapes its priorities. Still, it’s a useful option for sellers who lean heavily on Amazon fulfillment.

6. Multiorders

Multiorders is a lightweight tool for small to medium online retailers. It syncs inventory and orders across channels like Amazon, eBay, Shopify, and Etsy from one dashboard, with built-in shipping label printing. It’s a comparable option for sellers with a simpler channel mix than Linnworks typically targets.

7. Delivrd

Delivrd is a free, cloud-based inventory and order management tool for ecommerce sellers. It covers multichannel sync, basic forecasting, and warehouse features like batch picking. The free pricing makes it an accessible starting point for smaller sellers, with less depth than paid platforms as operations grow more complex.

8. Square for Retail

Square for Retail pairs POS hardware with inventory tracking, targeting small, single- or few-location retailers. It’s affordable and easy to set up, with stock updates tied directly to sales. It’s a strong starting point for small shops, though it offers less depth for multichannel selling or complex warehouse operations as a business scales.

9. Shopify POS

Shopify POS extends Shopify’s ecommerce platform into physical retail, syncing online and in-store inventory in one system. For retailers already built on Shopify, this is a natural fit. For retailers selling across other marketplaces too, coverage outside the Shopify ecosystem is more limited than dedicated multichannel tools.

10. Epos Now

Epos Now is a cloud-based POS system for small to mid-sized retail and hospitality businesses. It adds customer management and retail accounting tools alongside its core POS functions. It’s compatible across Windows, Mac, Android, and iPad, and works across a wide range of retail sub-sectors.

11. Lightspeed Retail

Lightspeed Retail handles complex apparel matrices and large catalogs well, a common choice for specialty retailers with dense product ranges and multiple physical locations. It’s also where Shopkeep and Vend customers ended up after Lightspeed acquired both companies.

12. Cash Register Express

Cash Register Express (from PC America) is a Windows-based POS system. It’s aimed at independent retailers, convenience stores, and specialty shops like liquor and grocery stores. Unlike most tools on this list, it uses a one-time license instead of a subscription. Some retailers prefer that. Others find it limiting compared to cloud-based alternatives.

13. Korona POS

Korona POS is a cloud-based system serving retail, ticketing, and quick-service businesses, with features like ABC inventory grading and automated reordering. Its ticketing capability makes it a notable option for retailers that also run events or memberships alongside standard sales.

14. Amber POS

Amber POS is a retail management solution combining POS, customer management, and inventory tools for businesses across the US and Canada. It covers the standard feature set smaller retailers need without the complexity of larger ERP-style platforms.

Enterprise ERP

15. Oracle NetSuite

NetSuite is one of the best-known names in enterprise ERP, combining inventory, supply chain, and CRM in a fully customizable, modular platform. That flexibility comes at enterprise pricing. It typically requires a dedicated team to manage. That puts it out of reach for many small and mid-sized retailers, even though the software itself is capable.

16. Acumatica

Acumatica offers both cloud and on-premise deployment, which is a genuine point of difference from most competitors on this list. It scales well for mid-sized businesses that need ERP-level functionality without being locked into a single hosting model. Like NetSuite, pricing sits at the higher end and tends to suit businesses that have outgrown simpler inventory tools.

Specialized inventory tools

17. Fishbowl

Fishbowl focuses on inventory control with strong QuickBooks integration and barcode scanning. It’s a good fit for retailers whose accounting already runs through QuickBooks and who want inventory data to sync directly with it. It also includes some manufacturing and warehouse capability beyond pure retail selling.

18. inFlow Inventory

inFlow Inventory targets small and mid-sized businesses that want straightforward inventory control, purchasing, and sales tracking without a steep learning curve. It includes offline functionality, useful for locations with inconsistent connectivity, though it carries less multichannel depth than tools built specifically for marketplace selling.

Making retail inventory management work with Linnworks

Some products on this list only handle a single piece of the multichannel retail puzzle. POS without multichannel sync. Or inventory without warehouse management. That eventually means running two or three tools instead of one.

Linnworks brings channel selling, warehouse operations, and forecasting together in a single system. Your stock count stays accurate everywhere at once as you add channels and locations.

FAQ

What’s the best retail inventory management software for a growing multichannel retailer?

For retailers selling across multiple channels and locations, look for a system that combines multichannel sync, warehouse management, and demand forecasting in one platform. That beats stitching together separate tools. Linnworks, Cin7, and Brightpearl by Sage all cover this combination, though they differ in pricing and target business size.

Is TradeGecko still available?

No. TradeGecko was discontinued by Intuit in 2023 after being folded into QuickBooks Commerce, which itself later shut down. If you’re evaluating options based on older comparisons, TradeGecko should not be on your list.

What happened to Shopkeep and Vend?

Lightspeed acquired both and migrated their customers into Lightspeed Retail. Neither exists as an independent product anymore.

What should I look for in retail inventory management software?

Look for real-time stock sync across every channel you sell on. Support for multiple warehouses or locations, if you need it. Automated reordering or forecasting. And integrations with your existing ecommerce, accounting, and shipping tools.

How much does retail inventory management software cost?

Pricing varies widely by scope. Free or low-cost tools like Delivrd and Zoho Inventory suit small sellers with simple needs. Mid-market platforms typically charge based on order volume or SKU count. Enterprise ERPs like NetSuite and Acumatica involve custom pricing and often a dedicated implementation team.
