Proxy Servers

Overview

If you are installing Linnworks on a machine which uses a proxy server to connect to the internet, you will need to specify the proxy server details. If you are unsure of whether or not you use a proxy server to access the internet, you will need to contact your IT department.

You might encounter an error similar to this. If you do, you will need to follow the steps below.

Resolution

To resolve this issue, you will need to create a file in the Linnworks installation folder (typically C:\Program Files (x86)\Linn Systems\Linnworks\ or C:\Program Files\Linn Systems\Linnworks\ depending on your version of Windows).

1) Open notepad

Windows XP:

Go to Start > Programs > Accessories and click on Notepad

Windows Vista/7:

Click Start (the Orb in the bottom left), type Notepad in the search box and press the Enter/Return key.

2) Paste the following text into Notepad

<?xml version="1.0"?>
<proxy>
<ProxyServer>ProxyIPorHostname</ProxyServer>
<ProxyPort>ProxyPort</ProxyPort>
<ProxyUserName>
ProxyUsername</ProxyUserName>
<ProxyPassword>ProxyPassword</ProxyPassword>
</proxy>

3) Enter your proxy server details into the bold sections. If you do not know these details, you can ask your IT Department or ISP for help.

Step 3

4) Go to File > Save As

5) Navigate to the Linnworks installation folder.

6) Under File Name, enter "proxy.xml" (please include the quotation marks).

7) Click Save.

8) Try and run the installation again.
