Generic Postage Labels

Overview

Linnworks enables you to design your own postage labels, insert PPI or bar-coded postage stamp onto the label and include order id (barcoded or plait) for traceability. This guide describes how to design your own generic postage label. The system can print on virtually any printer and allows you to design A4 sheet of labels.

Settings > Shipping Managment > Generic Postage Labels > Configure

Setting up Label Sheet

The top half of the Generic Postage Label Configuration screen allows you to set up the properties and definition of the label sheet that you are using. From this panel you can select which printer you’d like the labels to be printed to, the paper type and orientation, as well as detailed measurement and spacing settings. The following settings can be configured:

Printer: The printer that the labels will be printed to

Paper Type: The size and dimensions of the paper that you are printing on

Landscape: Checkbox to choose which orientation you wish to print the labels

Labels per sheet: The number of labels that you want to print on each sheet of paper

Rows: The number of rows on the sheet that you want to print labels for

Columns: The number of columns on the sheet that you want to print labels for

Width: The width of each label in inches

Height: The height of each label in inches

Top Margin: The margin between the top of the page and the top label in inches

Left Margin: The margin between the left of the page and the left most labels in inches

H. Spacing: The horizontal spacing between each label in inches

V. Spacing: The vertical spacing between each label in inches

Print Pick List with Label

  • Open Linnworks
  • Click on Settings
  • Click on Shipping Management
  • Click on Generic  Postage Labels
  • Tick Print as Pick List
  • Select from PickList Sort Type the way you want the pick list to be sorted.
  • The label will be generated and sent to the printer specified in the configuration.
  • Click on Save

If you have bin rack location on your inventory items it will sort it in bin rack order. You can now print labels with the pick list next to the label you need a label that is 139mm x 99.1mm. This also works with integrated invoices.

Design your own label

The designer allows you to drag and drop components of the label onto the label layout and adjust each element's property and positions.

Just above the label design area is a toolbar which lets you drag and drop the various elements onto the label. The various elements are as follows:

Labels and Variables: The labels and variables drop in is the most customisable element on the label designer. Double clicking on the label gives you the option to add your own expressions from the list of available variables and formulas. See the documentation on expressions for a detailed walkthrough of how you can use these in your labels.

Expressions Documentation

Order Notes: Drops a table onto the label which contains any order notes for the particular order. Double clicking on the table lets you edit which columns are visible and alter the font size / type.

Order Items: Drops a table onto the label which contains the order items for the particular order. Double clicking on the table lets you edit which columns are visible and alter the font size / type.

Image: Lets you place an image onto your label. Double clicking the label allows you to chose the picture that you are going to use, whether you want to have a border and the size properties of the image.

PPI Stamp: Lets you place PPI stamps onto the label. Double clicking on the control in the label lets you edit the Account number and allocated services/stamps.  PPI Stamp

While selecting an object, you can set the position and size of it by entering values into the dimension boxes at the bottom of the label design. You can also delete the objects from label by selecting the object and pressing Del key or clicking the delete button in the toolbar.

You can preview the current layout of the label sheet by clicking the Print Preview button in the right hand Preview panel. You may need to click the refresh button for any changes that you have made to be reflected in the preview.

At the bottom of the screen you have three options; Global Label, Local Label and Switch back to old label design:

Global Label vs Local Label

If you chose the Global label setting all computers that access Linnworks will be able to use and access this label. Selecting Local Label means that the label template is stored locally on that computer and can’t be accessed from the other computers. This is useful if you want to print different labels from different machines.

The last option is to switch back to the old label design, which as suggested, will revert your label designer to the Version 3 functionality.

Remember to hit the save button before you exit this screen to commit your changes.
