Installation Guide

Linnworks Order Management and Stock Control system relies on Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Express for storing data. The installation of the system includes the distributable for the database within the installer. When installing the standard server based installation the installer will attempt to install Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Express first and then install the application files afterwards.

Generally the installation process is very straight forward. Some problems may arias when installing the Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Express as part of the installation.

Standard Installation

Standard installation will setup and configure the Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Express and Linnworks program files automatically on the computer you are running the installation from. The SQL Server installation is optional. If you have one already installed you can use it without any problems.

The only thing you should keep in mind is that you must know system administrator password for the SQL Server in order to install the database on it.

To proceed to the installation simply execute the finaware_setup.exe. On Microsoft Windows Vista it is recommended to execute the installation as administrator (right click on linnworks_r3_server.exe, Run As Administrator)

The setup will check whether you have FINAWARE instance of the SQL Server already installed. If the system cannot detect the installation you will be prompted to install one automatically.If you do not wish to install the server and already have one you can use, click Ok and then answer No.

Proceed to the standard installation steps until you reach database connection wizard screen.

By default the connection details to newly installed SQL Server is already prefilled, all you need to do is to click Next to check the connection details and proceed to the database and program files installation. When choosing different database server click Browse button to view all available server on the network and on your local computer. You will then need to enter system administrator password. The default SQL Server instance is being installed with the name FINAWARE and system administrator password would be finawarestrongpassword99.

Manual Installation

In case you have experienced problems installing the system. You may try to install the system manually. All you need to do is to install three components of the system separately. These are

• Microsoft .Net Framework 2.0
• Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Express
• Finaware application files

Microsoft .Net Framework 2.0 in most cases is already installed. If not, you can download and install it from here

1. Download the SQLEXPR.EXE
2. Execute the file
3. The SQL Server installer will analyze you system and prompt if there are any errors or prerequisites you may need to install the Server. In most case if your automatic installation failed due to Microsoft SQL Server installation the errors will b indicated here.
4. When presented with Feature selection screen, make sure you have components selected as below

7. Proceed to the end of the installation with default settings.

Linnworks Order Management application files

To proceed to the installation simply execute the finaware_setup.exe. On Microsoft Windows Vista it is recommended to execute the installation as administrator (right click on linnworks_r3_server, Run As Administrator). OK the prerequisites screen and answer No to Microsoft SQL Server Installation. Proceed to installation as normal. In the Database Server screen, select newly installed instance of the server and type in the password for sa account.

Client installation

Once you have installed the Finaware server, you can deploy the system over the local area network by installing client application only (without database server). To install client application only download client installation package. To proceed to the installation simply execute the linnworks_r3_client.exe. On Microsoft Windows Vista it is recommended to execute the installation as administrator (right click on linnworks_r3_client.exe, Run As Administrator). When you get to the Database Server screen, click browse to select the server on the network and enter the system administrator password for the database server. The instance name for the remote database server will be [COMPUTENAME]\[INSTANCE NAME], (for example LINNBOX\FINAWARE).If you cannot see the server you have just installed, this is most likely to be due to firewall on the computer you have installed the server on.

Starting the application for the first time

When you running the application for the very first time you will need to register it and specify new administrator password.
